How MotoMotors works
Everything you need to know about your account, profile, discovering, following, settings, security and privacy – all in one place.
What is MotoMotors?
MotoMotors is a free community platform for motorcycle riders in Germany. You set up a profile, find other riders in your region, follow them and gradually build up your crew – from the state all the way down to your city.
The key building blocks:
- Profile – show who you are, what you ride and how.
- Discover – find riders filtered by region, brand and riding style.
- Follow – connect and keep an eye on your scene.
Create an account & approval
Via Register you can set up an account in under a minute. You'll need:
- a display name and a username (your username is part of your profile URL and also your login).
- a password (at least 8 characters) – no email required.
- your date of birth – the minimum age is 16.
Optional are your state, city, bike brand and model, and your riding styles – you can add them anytime in Settings.
Email confirmation: During registration you provide an email address and confirm it via a link we send you. Only after confirmation is your account active and all features available. If you don't have a confirmed address yet, you'll be asked to add one at your next login.
Sign in & sign out
You sign in with your username or email address and your password via Login. If you have enabled two-factor authentication, a one-time code is also requested. After signing in you land straight on the Discover page; to sign out, use "Sign out" in the navigation. Your sign-in stays active for up to 60 days through a technically necessary cookie.
Your profile
Your profile is your calling card in the community and is publicly reachable at /u/<username>. It shows your display name, username, region, bike, riding styles, a short description (bio) and your follower counts.
Publicly visible are your profile details and your badges – your email address, your date of birth and your password never are.
Region: state & city
Your region helps others find you nearby. First you pick your state, then the list loads matching cities. Both are optional – you can leave them blank or add them anytime. Without a region you still appear in the community, just without a location.
Bike & riding styles
For brand and model you pick the brand first, then the matching model. Your riding styles describe how you ride (you can pick more than one) – e.g. sporty, relaxed, touring, corner carver, cruising, offroad, adventure, everyday, group rides or solo. That makes it easier for like-minded riders to find you.
Profile picture
In Settings you can upload a profile picture. Allowed formats are JPG, PNG or WebP up to 3 MB. Without a picture we automatically show your initials.
Discover riders & crews
On Discover you browse the community. With the toggle you switch between riders and crews. You filter riders by state, city, brand and riding style; you search crews via the search box. Each card links straight to the respective profile or crew.
Follow & connect
Like a profile? Follow it with a click on Follow. With Unfollow you take it back. You can see your follower and "following" counts on your profile. Following is one-way – you don't need mutual confirmation.
Messages
Via Messages you write to other riders directly. You can message accounts you follow. New messages appear live. You can edit or delete your own messages for up to 5 minutes after sending (right-click or long-press the message). You can also report messages you receive there – the conversation is then sent to support for review.
Crews & rideouts
A crew is your group. You can start your own via Found a crew – then you're automatically the boss – or join an existing crew (open or by request, depending on the crew's setting).
- Roles: The boss appoints officers who help with moderation and rideouts; everyone else is a member.
- Rideouts are group rides (title, time, meeting point, details). Boss & officers create them and pick the visibility: public (for everyone, including the home page) or crew-only.
- You'll find crews in the Discover → Crews tab.
As boss or officer you plan rideouts via the rideout configurator: you enter the key facts and the system shows you – depending on the country and scope – non-binding guidance on what to consider (e.g. permits, safety measures, insurance). The respective crew and its operator are the sole organiser and bear responsibility; our rideout liability terms apply. Via Manage crew you edit settings, members and join requests. Ride safely and stick to the road traffic rules.
Photo of the Month
In the community vote "Photo of the Month" you upload one photo per month (cropped square, saved as WebP) and have one vote. Each month runs in two phases: during the first two weeks (days 1–14) you submit your photo, during the following two weeks (from day 15) voting takes place. After the month ends the winner is fixed, celebrated on the home page and – with your consent – posted on our Instagram @motomotorsde; their photo stays visible until a new winner is determined. Whoever wins pauses the following month (voting is still allowed) – participation is possible again from the month after. Manipulation (multiple accounts, bought votes) leads to disqualification.
Points, badges & inviting
For your activity you collect points and gain levels – e.g. for completing your profile, inviting people, taking part in Photo of the Month, logging in daily (login streak) and more. You can see your rank on the leaderboard. Higher levels unlock optional cosmetics (accent colour, title chip).
- Badges are visible achievements on your profile – for milestones like followers, invites, login streaks or voting participation. They are awarded automatically.
- For countable badges you haven’t reached yet, a progress bar shows how much is still missing.
- In your privacy settings you can choose whether your badges and crews are visible to others.
Via your personal invite link (?ref=…) you recruit new riders. Anyone who registers through it and confirms their email counts as your invite – earning points and the Ambassador badge (bronze to diamond). Every shared link automatically carries your ref code.
Notifications & push
Via the bell or the feed you see new followers, messages and voting results. In Settings you can additionally enable push notifications for your device (browser-based, can be turned off anytime). You remove individual entries from the feed by right-clicking or long-pressing.
Settings
Under Settings you can change your display name, username, region, bike, riding styles, bio and profile picture anytime. The Save button is only active once you've changed something. There you also control your privacy (whether your follower lists, region and bike are public), enable push and can delete your account yourself.
Security
- All transmission is encrypted over HTTPS/TLS.
- Passwords are stored only as a bcrypt hash – never in plain text.
- Optionally protect your account with two-factor authentication (authenticator app or email code), including single-use recovery codes and "trusted devices". 2FA is mandatory for owner/moderator/support.
- Forgot your password? Reset it securely by email via the link on the login page.
- Write actions are protected by CSRF tokens; sensitive actions additionally require your 2FA code on untrusted devices.
- Choose a strong, unique password and never share your login details.
Data & cookies
We only process what's necessary to run the service, and we use no marketing, tracking or third-party tools. We use only technically necessary (functional) cookies and local storage. You'll find the details in the privacy policy.
Moderation & reporting
To keep the community a good place, our community guidelines apply. You can report directly: a profile via the report icon, a message by right-clicking or long-pressing (the conversation is included for review). Alternatively you can reach us by email. Depending on the severity, measures range from removing individual content to banning accounts.
Accessibility & tech
- Animations (e.g. the scroll effect) respect the
prefers-reduced-motionsystem setting and are then turned off. - The interface works with mouse, keyboard and touch, runs from mobile to desktop, and can be installed as an app (PWA).
- On your phone, the Enter key in chat adds a new line – you send via the button.
